​Before treatment, all patients require a clinical assessment to determine whether Thermavein is the most appropriate option. During this consultation, we will discuss your medical history, examine the veins, and develop a personalised treatment plan based on your individual needs and expectations.

​Thermavein is designed to reduce the appearance of thread veins by delivering a precise burst of thermal energy directly into the affected vessel. The treated vein is sealed and is gradually absorbed by the body over the following weeks. Many veins disappear immediately or fade significantly soon after treatment, while others may take several weeks to achieve their final result.
The procedure is quick and minimally invasive, with no need for injections or surgery. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief warm or stinging feeling. Normal activities can usually be resumed immediately after treatment, although temporary redness and mild swelling are common.
How Many Treatments Are Required?

The number of treatments required varies depending on the size, number, and location of the thread veins being treated.
  • Small, isolated thread veins may respond well after a single treatment session.
  • More extensive areas often require 2 to 4 treatments to achieve the best cosmetic outcome.
  • Some veins may only partially respond initially and require additional treatment.
  • New thread veins can develop over time, particularly in individuals with a genetic tendency towards them, so occasional maintenance treatments may be beneficial.

Possible Side Effects and Complications

Thermavein has an excellent safety profile when performed by a trained practitioner, but as with any medical procedure, side effects and complications can occur.

Common temporary effects include:
  • Redness around the treated vessel
  • Mild swelling
  • Slight tenderness or sensitivity
  • Small scabs or crusting at treatment sites
  • These effects typically settle within a few days to a few weeks.​

​Less common complications include:
  • Temporary skin pigmentation changes (darkening or lightening of the skin)
  • Persistent redness
  • Minor blistering
  • Small superficial scars
  • Incomplete clearance or recurrence of treated veins
  • Serious complications are rare. Following the aftercare advice provided by your practitioner will help minimise the risk of adverse effects and optimise the cosmetic result.

​Important Information

Thermavein is highly effective for treating superficial thread veins, but it does not address underlying venous disease. All patients require a clinical assessment before treatment, and some may require an ultrasound scan to identify larger underlying veins. Where significant underlying vein reflux is present, treatment of these veins may be recommended first to achieve the best and most durable results.
